Our Strategic Areas

Five pillars that guide our programs and interventions across the Niger Delta.

1

Education and Human Capacity Development

Education remains the foundation of sustainable development

LALAF works to:

  • Support out-of-school children
  • Provide scholarships and learning materials
  • Promote literacy and numeracy programs
  • Strengthen early childhood development
  • Advocate for access to quality education in rural communities

We believe education is not only academic — it is the ability to think critically, make informed decisions, and build a better future.

2

Women and Youth Empowerment

Women and young people represent the majority of the population in many rural communities, yet often face limited access to skills, capital, and institutional support

LALAF works to:

  • Vocational and technical training including enterprise skills
  • Financial literacy education
  • Small business development support
  • Cooperative strengthening initiatives
  • Mentorship and leadership development

Our goal is economic independence, dignity, and sustainable income generation.

3

Community Health & Well-Being

Healthy communities are productive communities

LALAF works to:

  • Community health sensitization
  • Preventive health education
  • Hygiene awareness campaigns
  • Support for vulnerable mothers, children, and elderly populations
  • Health outreach in collaboration with local partners

Our Covid-19 response efforts included community education in local dialects and distribution of essential relief materials.

4

Humanitarian Assistance & Disaster Response

LALAF provides support to communities affected by emergencies, including flooding and other natural disasters common in the Niger Delta

LALAF works to:

  • Food and essential relief distribution
  • Distribution of hygiene supplies
  • Support to displaced families
  • Livelihood restoration assistance
  • Community-based recovery programs

Flood-prone areas continue to face recurring challenges, including environmental impacts associated with regional water systems such as releases from the Lagdo Dam. Our response prioritizes dignity, stabilization, and recovery.

5

Sustainable Livelihoods & Agriculture

Agriculture remains central to rural economic life

LALAF works to:

  • Training for improved farming practices
  • Distribution of agricultural inputs
  • Support for flood-affected farmers
  • Income diversification initiatives
  • Skills-based enterprise development

We aim to strengthen household income while promoting sustainability.
